Oncology and Lymphatic Massage
Massage for oncology and edema require a very client-specific, customized massage designed to meet the unique and ever changing needs of individuals during treatment for cancer, with a history of cancer or with edema or lymphedema caused by another condition. A safe and effective plan is designed based on the treatment the client is undergoing and the side effects present. Clients are encouraged to consult with their medical team before creating a massage treatment plan, this is especially important while going through treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation.
Massage during treatment for cancer can be effective at reducing symptoms of stress, pain, nausea, anxiety, depression and fatigue. Lymphatic massage is commonly used during or post cancer treatment and for other conditions that cause edema. Lymphatic drainage massage is a gentle massage performed intentionally to move the flow of lymph fluids away from the extremities and other areas where is may pool.
